Where are we going to eat? It’s an age-old dilemma all New Yorkers face. We have our favorite spots and neighborhood standbys, sure, but if you’re like me, you’re just as hungry for something new and delicious you’ve never tasted before. And in this city of endless restaurant options, how do you find that next great meal? Crowdsourcing apps are definitely helpful, but when it comes to food I put more stock in the pros- established critics with enough experience to provide reliable recommendations.
My go-to site for finding new restaurants is New York Magazine. They have a huge archive of places they’ve reviewed over the years, and any spot designated a “Critics’ Pick” is usually worth trying. Unfortunately, searching their archive can be cumbersome and they don’t have a quick, intuitive way of suggesting restaurants based on a user’s current location. So, to make things easier, I built Critics’ Picks.
Critics’ Picks determines a user’s location and, based on a chosen price range, finds all restaurants nearby that have been deemed “critics’ picks” by New York Magazine. In map view, a user can quickly see restaurants’ locations and click on individual plot points for more information, while the list view allows a user to quickly scan all nearby options for important details like name, address and cuisine.
I built Critics’ Picks because it’s something I always wanted, and hopefully you’ll find it useful, too. Feel free to get in touch with me here if you have any comments, critiques, or anything else you’d like to discuss.
